How do I connect my PC to the television using a HDMI cable and also have sound?

I am using windows xp and I connected the video card to the sound card with the spdif cable. The video part works but there is no sound, the tv sometimes makes popping sounds every so often. I think maybe because the pins for the spdif is 2 pins and the sound card has a spdif out that has 3 pins. If anyone knows please help me, Thanks.

Some computer video cards include audio over HDMI, but most don’t.

SPDIF is either optical (square connector) or RCA (round smooth jack, usually orange). It doesn’t have pins. The only thing I can think of that would have pins is an S-Video jack.

If you post the make and model of your TV, video card and sound card, you’ll probably get good advice on how to hook it up.
