I wanna connect my laptop – toshiba satellite m45 s165, to my tv – sony kdf-50e2000.?

The S-Video works ok but I just tried a VGA to Component which gives me a scrambled picture. Question is, do I need to update me driver or simply check a box somelace. This is a job for Mercury.

Interesting. I’ll check up on some stuff for ya.
hmmmm. not alot of info out there in the net about it.

so, its got a ATI Mobility Radeon X700 video card right? probably.

first. I suggest getting the latest drivers for it. (but you probably already do)

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

then make sure you get (or have) the “ATI CATALYST control center”

ati’s site states “If your notebook features an ATI Mobility Radeon™ GPU, please contact your notebook manufacturer directly for any available ATI Catalyst updates.”

so, if you don’t have the catalyst center go ask for it.
I think this is the link (but continue reading before installing it since you might already have it)

I’ve noticed when setting things up for the first time, I need to turn my tv with the computer connected then turn on my computer and go from there

now when you right click and empty spot on your desktop the first option should be the red ati icon and CATALYST.

when opened make sure you’re in advanced mode (basic will use a wizard and it might or might not work)

then in the box on the left choose “display manager” and make sure both displays are shown. if not, choose detect displays. that should set the tv up right. there will be options below if you click on the “2″ screen. it should be ok to mess around with those.

then on the box to the left again there should be a “TV (or monitor) properties 2″. if you click it, options open.

choose “image quality”
there you might find a solution to your s video blur problem but also might find other options for composite.

then back in the left window check out the “format” option.

you might be given more choices in there. mine only displays options available for my specific type of tv which is very basic. you might be given more.

All this is kinda in the air because of how I’m limited by my basic tv and I’m not sure if you have other options.

either way. keep me posted on how it goes. if you can get screen shots of your catalyst setup I might be able to give more details, but I’d say the key lies in there somewhere.
email me on your progress.

oh, and I’m interested in whether or not the “s-video sharpness” makes a difference or not when using the s video connection. (if you have the time and are curious as well)
