Cable Install FtaThursday, June 3rd, 2010Cable Install Fta I recently bought a house and it has a satellite dish already installed. I dont have a subscription to satellite nor do I intend on getting one, as I don’t watch much TV. I really don’t know anything about satellite TV, so any help I can get is much appreciated. >I was told that I can get a FTA box Yes there are such boxes, but the kinds of channels you can receive (legally) for free tend to be unusual. >hook it up to the dish that is already in place That depends on the dish. Unless it was used for FTA before, probably not. >Do I need one for each TV in the house, If you want to watch different channels on the TVs. >And will I have to reset something in it once in a while (get a new card or something) or will it just… work? That sounds like an illegal hacked box to steal from a pay satellite service. That is not what I’m describing. If you look around at the web sites that are linked to below, you can find out more info than I know. ————————————————————— Added comment: There is free legal satellite TV in North America. Typically you need a larger dish than the paid services and the kind of programming you can get tends to be PBS, foreign language, religious, NASA TV…. Stuff that is not encrypted.

Business Satellite InternetSunday, April 18th, 2010business satellite internet Ok I have Hughesnet satellite Internet. I get about a second of ping time, and I pretty much know that that is too much for LIVE. I heard that Hughesnets longtime used to not be that high, but they changed it to accomadate the growing business. How can I get lower ping times?? And, will FPS be playable with my current ping times? (MW2 WaW) also, Im going to connect wirelessly through my laptop, and I have a N router, so it shouldn’t be slow. Wireless is always going to be slower than wired, even the new N protocol. Though I suspect the sat connection may be more of a bottleneck. It’s not all about ping for gaming though. Check out this guide and see if things look good for your setup or not: http://www.xbox.com/en-NZ/support/xbox/live/losethelag.htm
