On a trip to Africa last year, I was flicking through Nilesat satellite television when I came across a number of channels dedicated to male vocal harmony accapella singing in Arabic. This was group singing and did not appear to be religious music. The singers were invariably dressed in the traditional robes and headdresses of the Arabian peninsula.
It was definitely not recitation of the Quran. Unfortunately for me all the writing on the screen was in Arabic script which I do not read.
Please tell me the name of this type of music. What are the names of the best known groups? What TV channels can I access in Western Europe showcasing this music? Where can I buy CDs and DVDs or download such music?

Is it possible to buy satellite TV in one country, but set it up to receive channels from another country?
For example, if I live in the USA, can I have a specialist install a satellite system that will broadcast both U.S. TV through, say, DirecTV, as well as Sky and other channels like Sky sports? If not, what is the best way to receive these channels short of getting a Slingbox?
It would be very difficult or near impossible, First the American standard for TV transmissions is NTCS, the English standard is PAL, so you would need a TV that could receive both of these systems, very unlikely in USA as they don’t know what “the rest of the world means”,Second big problem is that the satellite system ( Astra ) that transmits SKY is at a fixed position over western Europe, I think you would be best to see which channels you can get by local cable.
